To Everyone from Kazunori Osawa, Instructor at Ichirin Ikebana Classroom
I am Ichirin Osawa, a professor and the headmaster of the Ryusei-ha school of Ikebana. Just as I have been saved by flowers, I want you all to experience the healing power of flowers and the joy of loving yourself.
Ikebana may have an image of being exclusive, strict, and rigid, but in reality, it is not. Participants unanimously express how they can enjoy Ikebana casually, as if having a conversation with flowers and realizing the freedom of expression it allows. I believe this is the reason why Ikebana has continued for over 700 years in Japan. In other words, it is an art that is easy to continue and can be enjoyed by anyone. Through our online classroom, we have made efforts to bridge the gap of time and distance. Let’s enjoy Ikebana together!
Profile
I was born in Tokyo and graduated from Waseda University.
I am a professor and the headmaster of the Ryusei-ha school of Ikebana.
Growing up, I was influenced by my flower-loving (yet strict) parents and my elegant grandmother with a love for art.
While studying philosophy during my university years, I obtained a teaching license and worked as an English teacher at a public middle school in Tokyo after graduation.
However, I couldn’t completely abandon my dream of art, so I resigned from my job. While working in California, USA, I studied art, focusing on printmaking, at a university.
During my 6 and a half years in the United States, I finally realized the wonderfulness of Japanese cultural arts and upon returning to Japan, I embarked on the path of flower art, which I had long wanted to learn. Over the past 20 years, I have been exploring the art created in collaboration with flowers, leading me to where I am today. In addition to teaching Ikebana in my own classroom and to elementary school students and international students from overseas, I have gained popularity through word-of-mouth for my flower arrangement and wreath works that express and create individuality with flowers. I am dedicated to daily custom creations and sales. In 2021, I launched a workshop called “Welcome Wreath Club” to enjoy wreath making.
